John Denver was a superstar singer who touched millions with his pop-folk songs, many of which were located in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell in New Mexico. He fell in love Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's anthems of fame about Colorado have been a major influence on many to make the move to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver was a member of the Hall of Fame as its first member in 2011. Denver is today the face of Colorado on the world stage. Certainly in my travels you meet someone from the other side of the world one of New Zealand and you say 'I'm of Colorado and the first word that comes out of their mouth is Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads was one of Denver's top 10 hits following a performance with a small folk music bands. The song was written and produced by Bill Danoff. Danoff had originally written the tune using Johnny Cash's songs with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver was aware from the very first moment he listened to the earlier versions that it could be a huge popular. The song was recorded by the singer only a few days afterward after performing it to crowds of enthusiastic fans on the streets of Washington D.C.
